Maryam received her law degree from the University of Massachusetts School of Law at Dartmouth in 2009. She has more than a decade of experience representing clients across the full spectrum of U.S. immigration matters. Licensed to practice law in both Texas and Connecticut, Maryam represents individuals, families, and businesses in immigration matters throughout the United States and around the world.
Maryam previously worked with a large global immigration firm, where she handled hundreds of employment-based visa matters for companies in the technology and oil and gas industries. Since 2017, she established her own practice and has served as Managing Partner of Francisco Fernandez Law Group PLLC as well as Of Counsel to Filippov Law Group PLLC.
In addition to her extensive immigration practice, Maryam represents clients in criminal matters throughout the State of Texas. She provides strategic and effective representation in a wide range of criminal cases, recognizing the significant impact that criminal charges can have on an individual’s future, particularly for noncitizens. Her dual experience in criminal defense and immigration law enables her to develop comprehensive legal strategies that protect both her clients’ constitutional rights and their immigration status.
Maryam has also served as faculty for the National Business Institute, where she has instructed fellow attorneys on various aspects of immigration law.
Her experience includes nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions, employment-based permanent residence, PERM labor certifications, and responses to complex government challenges, including Requests for Evidence (RFEs), Notices of Intent to Deny (NOIDs), and business compliance matters. She also advises clients on naturalization, family-based immigration, deportation defense, waivers of inadmissibility, and consular processing.
Maryam has extensive experience in business immigration, family-based immigration, and removal proceedings. Prior to relocating to Texas, she represented clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Courts in Boston and Hartford and successfully appealed adverse decisions before the Board of Immigration Appeals. She has also represented multinational banking and financial services companies in foreclosure proceedings in Connecticut.
